#REEL IT | ‘Elliot is a Skengman’ – april20

well… i’m back.

you know what’s so funny is I wrote august’s post like it was a about to be a regular occurrence knowing damn well i was about to start a masters looooooool; i’m a crook but chale things happen but ‘we back’ so no long talk we’ve got catching up to do

once again bare in mind these aren’t full reviews and my opinion may change as I finish a full season of any show, so unless i give it a reel of approval, it’s purely a recommendation

THE BEST ON THE small screen…

Gangs of London (Sky Atlantic/NOWtv)

listen, let me not even waste too much time because this show is what pushed me to jump back on and chat to you guys small

THIS SHOW YEAH.. i’m only halfway through the season so i hope it lands on it’s feet, but so far it’s easily my top recommendation this month; the choreography of the fight scenes? the camera work? that properly gritty-british-crime drama feel? it’s all deya so check gangs of london out as a matter of urgency

caution to the shook-heads, this show is one of the most violent and gory shows i have seen; up there with GOT so beware.

The first episode comes in at 90 mins so treat it like a movie or it’ll catch you off guard #elliotisaskengman #reelit

oh yeah the sysnopsis… it’s about gangs in london… just watch it man

UPDATE: i’ve now completed the season and aside from a few loose threads, I approve! amazing first season, great story, tarantino-esque violence (though i haven’t watched it, i’m told the action feels akin to that in ‘the raid’); all around reel of approval

Insecure S4 (Sky Atlantic/HBO)

c’mon now you should all be watching insecure, i shouldn’t even be recommending this one but alas i know some of you don’t watch it (for those that do skip over this one); insecure follows the awkward experiences and racy tribulations of a group of modern-day african-americans

one of the greatest things about insecure is it always leads post-show discussions about friendship, relationships, money, sex, the lot; you’ve probably ended up in a tl discussion that was the aftermath of an episode of insecure without realising so why not watch it for yourself

as one of the few black shows out there that isn’t forcing it, this one is definitely a must and let’s hope this season is better than the last #teamlawrence #reelit

Godfather of Harlem (epix)

now this show has been out since november, but it only got a stateside release making it soooo hard to find for us u.k. folk but i’m a crook so i managed

godfather of harlem tells the story of renowned new york city gangster ‘bumpy johnson’ after his 10 year stint at alcatraz federal penitentiary and features familiar faces such as malcolm x, vicent gigante and other well known members of the genovese crime family

like gangs of london, i’m only halfway through, but yooo this show is making a darn good impression so far; sweet dialogue, VIOLENCE, malcolm on that nation of islam cruddd, and seeing forest whitaker face off with vincent d’onofrio is *chefs kiss*

drug crime dramas seem to be what’s hitting right now so since that garbage show ‘power’ has ended add this to the rotation 🙂 #louisfarrakhanwantstobemalcomxsobad #reelit

Three Identical Strangers (Netflix)

this one is a less of a tv show and more of a documentary

three identical strangers tells the story of edward galland, david kellman and robert shafran; three – you guessed it – identical strangers who happened to be triplets separated at birth

within the space of week, aged 19, the three discover each other by chance but they also unearth a crazy secret about their upbringing and how this all came to be; top doc #reelit

Hunters (Amazon Prime Video)

an amalgamation of true stories, hunters uses real life events through the decades to tell the story of a group of nazi hunters seeking to write off the many nazis who, post-hitler, are living in new york under new aliases (in modern terms they changed their @ and went on private)

to those who don’t enjoy violence, i’m sorry man this month’s post has not been in your favour; slicing and dicing is a regular feature here, in fact, the very first scene you will actually scream

like gangs of london (see how i’m banging on about that show) the first episode clocks in at around 90 minutes so prepare yourself

since i have completed this show, I can definitely give this show a ‘reel of approval’, solid showing #nazihunters #reelit
